Biographical history
Mary Gertrude "Marie" Bowersock, 1890-1984, was born in Havana, Kansas, USA. She studied at Washington State College (Pullman) and taught for a year before marrying Leslie A. Pharis in Anatone, Washington in 1908. They eventually had four children, Gwen (Ringwood), George, Blaine, and Robert. Together with her father, husband, and young daughter, Mary moved to southern Alberta in 1914. Mary and Leslie taught school, and Mary also wrote for various newspapers. Mary was active in the United Farm Women of Alberta. After Leslie's death in 1961, Mary attended the University of Lethbridge, and became famous for attaining her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970 at the age of 80. She moved to Williams Lake, B.C. in 1978.

The fonds consists of family and personal memorabilia and photographs, correspondence, newspaper articles and essays on the United Farmers of Alberta and other topics, and university student essays.
