History
John Harold McLeod, 1878-1944, joined Imperial Oil in Ontario in 1920. Shortly thereafter, he was sent west as drilling foreman. When the Royalite Oil Company was formed in 1921 as a subsidiary of Imperial Oil, he was appointed manager. He was sent to Peru from 1923 to 1925 as assistant manager of operations, then returned to Calgary, Alberta and became manager of all of Imperial Oil’s subsidiaries in Western Canada. He was elected president of Royalite Oil Company in 1930 and served in that capacity until his death in 1944. His son, C. Harold McLeod, 1900-1979, also worked for Imperial Oil in Peru, returning to Alberta to work in Turner Valley in the late 1920s. He was married to F. Leone Johnson, 1905-1993, and they had two sons, Donald Robert “Bob” McLeod, 1927 -, and John “Jack” McLeod, ca. 1929 -. Donald Robert “Bob” McLeod was born in Calgary but lived with his family in Turner Valley until he started school, when the family returned to Calgary. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia. As a student, he worked with Royalite Oil, but on graduation was employed by Shell Oil in the personnel department. In 1961, he took a teaching position with the Edmonton Public School Board and retired in 1987. He and his wife, Marjorie W. Long, had three daughters, Debbie (Knall), Nancy (Brown) and Deanna McLeod.
