Scope and content

The Hall Committee was formed in 1976, representing a transfer of community hall governance from the Community Hall Association, founded in 1962 and also called the Hall Board, whose membership continued to oversee most aspects of the management of the hall. The hall was available to residents of the Milo Recreation area for a minimal rental fee. Examples of activities held were weddings, bingo, 4H events, youth events, Stampede wrestling and New Years Eve dances as well as regular Lions meetings twice a month and other Lions events such as Charter Nights.

In 1982 it was decided to apply to the Alberta Government for a grant for a new building and a new committee was formed. The Hall Committee and New Hall Committee coexisted until the end of the building project when the New Hall Committee was disbanded. The Village swapped lots with the Ag Society, enabling the new building to be on the corner of Centre Street and Railway Avenue. Construction began in 1984. The first event in the new hall was the wedding dance of Dale Deitz and Colleen Wilson in April 1985, and the official Grand Opening of the Hall was on May 4th, 1985. The original Hall Board was officially dissolved in June, 1989. A sound room was added to the Hall in 2012, partially financed through a fund raising video shoot and cabaret featuring Larry Vannatta.

Since the new Hall was bigger than either of the 2 churches, it was able to accommodate additional functions of funerals and bridal showers. The hall has been host to countless community activities including the 60th and 75th Anniversaries, annual events such as Lions Canada Day Pancake Breakfast, Lions New Years Eve Fun Casino, Lions BBQ, Fall Fair Supper and Milo Library Ham Supper.

The series consists of minutes, photographs, a guest book, a blueprint of the new hall, legal and financial documents.

The series has been arranged into the following subseries: Minutes, Correspondence, New Hall, Operations, Vital Records and Financials.

One of minute books in this series covers 1962-2006, years that include pre-Ag Society governance.
