History

James Minns was born in Stouffville, ON in 1867, the son of George and Mary(Carruthers) Minns. In 1889 he married Isobel Harwood and they had two children: James Harwood and Marion Irene. The family moved to Edmonton in 1902 and to Athabasca in 1904. James filed on NE6-66-22-W4 in Nov. 1905. He hauled freight for the Hudson's Bay Co. and Revillon Freres, and in 1911 became the postmaster in Athabasca, a job he held for 25 years until his death in 1936. James was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Old Timers'Assoc.and the United Church. Isobel died in 1953 aged 84 years.
