Biographical history
Amy Monica Maggs, 1884-1974, was born in Dorset, England. She emigrated to Montreal, Quebec with her family in 1900, and then back to England in 1903. She married Francis William Robert "Billie" Hopkins, 1879-1948, in 1909 and they settled on a horse ranch 16 kms southwest of Priddis, Alberta which Billie had set up in 1902. In 1918 they moved closer to Priddis and kept sheep and a dairy. Monica was involved in the St. James Women's Auxiliary and the Priddis-Westoe Women's Institute. In 1943 she and Billie moved to an acreage near Red Deer, and after his death she lived in Ireland, Black Diamond, and Calgary.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of her manuscript (written in the 1940s) about ranch life near Priddis taken from 1909-1911 letters; marriage certificate, autobiographical notes, passport, birth certificate and form, and manuscript called "Big Ben Woman" (ca. 1950). Also consists of photographs of Monica, Billie and the Priddis ranches (ca. 1900-1951).
