Notice biographique

Bernard Amtmann was born in Vienna, Austria in 1907. He immigrated to Canada in 1947 to join his brother in Ottawa, Ontario and started a small antiquarian bookselling business. He transferred his business to Montreal, Quebec in 1950 and founded Montreal Book Auctions Limited (Ltd.) in 1967. Amtmann died in January 1979 and Montreal Book Auctions was sold to Canada Book Auctions Ltd. and relocated to Toronto, Ontario.

Historique de la conservation

These records were purchased from Montreal Book Auctions Ltd. by the Provincial Archives of Alberta in seven separate accessions from 1973-1979.

Portée et contenu

Collection consists of lantern slides depicting photographs and drawings of First Nations people in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, maps depicting the Dominion of Canada, a photograph album depicting farm scenes along the Canadian Pacific Railways (CPR) line in Manitoba and Assiniboia and a souvenir album for the Fifth Congress of the Chambers of Commerce of the Empire which depicts members of the congress as they traveled to various cities across Canada. The collection also includes a letter from William Aberhart to R.H. Babbage of Westmount, Quebec.

Includes 53 transparences, 6 maps, and 0.01 m of textual records. Copies of the lantern slides have been made in slide form.
