Biographical history

Bernard Amtmann was born in Vienna, Austria in 1907. He immigrated to Canada in 1947 to join his brother in Ottawa, Ontario and started a small antiquarian bookselling business. He transferred his business to Montreal, Quebec in 1950 and founded Montreal Book Auctions Limited (Ltd.) in 1967. Amtmann died in January 1979 and Montreal Book Auctions was sold to Canada Book Auctions Ltd. and relocated to Toronto, Ontario.

The Provincial Archives of Alberta purchased these records from Montreal Book Auctions Ltd. in 1979.

Collection consists of correspondence by various people in New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Alberta and Ontario, to Robert Bell, a surveyor with the Geological Survey of Canada in Ottawa, Ontario.
