Biographical history

Moses Isaac Lieberman was born in Toronto in 1891. The family moved to Kingston where Mr. Lieberman received his early education. In about 1910, Mr. Lieberman received a bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering. He would receive a Masters of engineering the following year. In 1917, Moe Lieberman would come to Alberta to study and practice law. He was called to the bar in 1917 and began practicing in the firm Friedman and Lieberman. In 1918, he married Emily Sereth of Calgary. The Liebermans would have two children, Ethel and Sam. Though he didn't attend the university, Moe Lieberman played quarterback for the University of Alberta. Moe Lieberman played for the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club in 1921 and 1922, continued as manager of the club after his retirement, eventually became president of the football club. Mr. Lieberman was also active in Jewish Community Activities and occupied executive positions in many organizations including Talmud Torah, B'nai B'rith, and Congregation Beth Shalom. Mr. Lieberman died in 1985.

Donated by Howie Sniderman of Maccabi Canada in 2001. Moe Lieberman's son, Sam Lieberman, gave the material to Maccabi, Canada around 1990 for safekeeping. Photo donated by Sam Lieberman in 2005. More donated by Sam Lieberman in 2008.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of text, photos, awards and plaques given to Moe Lieberman of Edmonton, Alberta, from 1957- 1980. The fonds consists of one framed award and six plaques, and 101 photographs.
