Historique

Gordon Moyer was born in Waterloo, Ontario on September 25, 1894 and when working as a farm hand in 1915 he heard tales about the Peace Country. He set out with two companions and they all settled in the Elmworth area, Gordon homesteading on NE 15-70-11. Once Gordon planted his crop he went to work for W.D. Albright and has the distinction of being the first person to break the land and seed the first crop at the Beaverlodge Experimental Farm. On August 30, 1929 Gordon was married to a local teacher Edna Pearl Small. Their marriage took place at the home of the Brewers in Elmworth.

Gordon was a passionate farmer winning numerous awards. One award received was the Robertson Associate Award which is the highest award given by the Canadian Seed Growers' Association to a seed-grower. Gordon also won the World Oat Champion Award in 1951.

Gordon served as secretary for both the Elmworth FUA, and for the Alberta Federation of Agricultural Service Board (1952). He was an active member of the United Church. Gordon was the Meteorological Observer for the Canadian Government for over 25 years.

Gordon and Edna had two children Gordon Jr. and Alice. Gordon died in 1953 and is buried in the Elmworth Cemetery.
