Biographical history
<p>Mufty Mathewson was born in Kingston, Ontario to Kenneth Hadley Tremain and Nora Patricia Tremain (nee Bermingham). She graduated Head Girl from King's Hall Compton, Compton, Quebec in 1950. In 1954 she graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec with a diploma in Physio and Occupational Therapy and in 1975 she graduated from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta with a Bachelor of Physical Therapy. She married William Wallace Mathewson and together they have four children; Bruce, Wendy, Robert and William Mathewson. <p>Mufty began her career in 1954 as a physiotherapist at Montreal General Hospital in Montreal, Quebec and worked in this profession until 1979 when she changed careers and taught photography at the City Arts Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Much of her volunteer work centered on photography, she published articles and was a member of several photographic arts committees. In 1986 Mufty worked as a physiotherapist at the Workers Compensation Board in Edmonton, Alberta, however she resigned from this position when her daughter suffered a brain injury in 1987. In 1997 her book Courage After Coma was published which talks about a family's recovery from a daughter's severe brain injury.</p>

Scope and content
The fonds consists of photographs taken of or by Mufty Mathewson on her trip through Europe. Textual records include letters written to and from her family, a yearbook and paperwork from her first job.
