Biographical history

Parks Canada administers national parks in Canada. The agency has been administered by several government departments and undergone numerous name changes over the years. Most recently it was known as the Canadian Parks Service. Parks Canada is responsible for the administration of mountain parks and, in some cases, townsites within these parks. Until 1990, it administered the town of Banff in Banff National Park. Parks Canada provides a variety of services to visitors and residents pertaining to interpretive and visitor information; trail, resource and wildlife management; fire protection, mountaineering search and rescue and avalanche control; facilities and utilities; townsite services etc.

Custodial history

On May 27, 1999 Toni and Shirley Klettl visited with Ole and Alice Hermanrude in Salmon Arm, BC and Ole asked them to give the Jasper Museum some items in a box: a scale and two small booklets. In the late sixties he was asked to clean out the old 'archives' room in the old Administration Building (presently the Information Centre). He saw stuff being hauled from the room to the dump, but Ole saw these three items and 'salvaged' them from being thrown away. It was said that the scales came from the Post Office and probably were the original scales used.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of two booklets produced by Parks Canada aimed at attracting tourists and as souvenirs.
