Biographical history

Ova Brower was born in Fisher County, Texas on August 9, 1895. The family came to Canada in 1904 and took up ranching in the Wildhorse district. Ova worked for several cattle outfits in the Wildhorse and Havre districts and started up his own ranch at Wildhorse in 1917. He married Nellie (nee Pailthorp) in Havre, Montana, date unknown. In 1929, they started a ranch in the Aden district near the location of the old Pinhorn point of entry from the United States into Canada. The Brower brand came to be known as a prominent and familiar mark in the Medicine Hat area. His Hereford cattle won prizes at the Toronto Winter Fair. Ova and Nellie had 3 sons: Ken and Bill who manage their own ranches, and Lynn, who operates a store at Etzikom. Ova Brower was a member of the Western Stock Growers' Association, as well as a member of the Masons. He passed away April 24, 1958 at the age of 63.
