Biographical history

Palma Eleonora Volstad, 1919-2004, was born in Claresholm, Alberta and educated in local schools. After training at the Calgary Normal School she taught in several rural schools including Northern Lights School District No. 2155 (south of Claresholm), Badger Flat School District No. 1471 (southeast of Claresholm), and Clover Mount School District No. 811 (west of Didsbury). In 1942 she joined the British Admiralty Technical Mission and after training in Peterborough, Ontario worked in Oshawa, Regina and Calgary. She married Gerald Tildesley, ?-1979, and they had two children, Karen (MacCrimmon) and Robert.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of school inspectors' reports, certificates, and other records related to her career as a teacher (ca. 1937-1942); correspondence, clippings, photographs re her work in BATM; and short memoirs of both occupations. Also includes an attendance record for Northern Lights school, 1939-1940.
