He came to Dawson City, Yukon in 1898, married an Alaska woman named Jesse Philips and they had six children; Walter, William, Bertha, Ellen, Jesse and Percy Jr. Percy had a government contract to carry the mail from Dawson City to Eagle Alaska from 1915 to 1950. He was called the "Iron Man of the North" because of the hardships he endured on his trips, and the fact that he always made it through regardless of weather, ice or animals.
