Biographical history
Percy Dwight Wickman was born June 10, 1941 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. In 1964, Wickman suffered an industrial accident leaving him a paraplegic. He is married to Sylvia and they have one son Ron. In 1967, Wickman moved to Edmonton Rutherford. In 1969, he earned a diploma in Business Administration from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. He attended the University of Alberta enrolled in Political Science and Pre-law Programs from 1971-1973. From 1969 to 1971, Wickman served as the Advertising Manager for the University of Alberta Student's Union. From 1973 to 1976, he was the Executive Director for the Handicapped Housing Society of Alberta. During 1976 and 1977, he served as the National Coordinator for the Coalition of Provincial Organizations of the Physically Disabled. He has instructed at Grant MacEwan College and has been employed as an independent consultant for Triwicky Enterprises. Wickman's involvement in community groups and associations was extensive. In 1981, he served as the Co-Chairman of the Canadian Organization Committee for the International Year of Disabled Persons. He chaired the MLA/Handicapped Joint Committee, the Executive Chair of the Greater Edmonton Foundation. He also served on the Edmonton Regional Economic Planning Commission as well as a Board Member of the Alberta Health Association. Wickman has also been the recipient of a number of awards including the Friend of NAIT Institute Award, Canadian of the Year Award, and the Provincial Achievement Award. Wickman served as an Alderman for the City of Edmonton for nine years before he was elected to the Alberta Legislature in 1989. He served as a Liberal MLA and was dubbed by the media as a "giant killer" when he defeated Premier Don Getty in Edmonton Whitemud constituency in March of 1989. In 1993, his Liberal Caucus portfolio assignment was as the Critic responsible for Municipal Affairs. In 1994 and 1995, he was the Critic responsible for Lotteries, Gaming and Racing as well as for the Premier's Council for the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

Fonds consists of records created or received during Wickman's term as MLA. Fonds includes: thank you cards and letters; general correspondence; newspaper clippings; government business including Bill 213; as well as photographs of Wickman, school groups and the Alberta Legislature.
