Biographical history

Spencer Bardsley Baron was born in England on Oct.8, 1884. He graduated with a B.A. from Queen's College, Cambridge in 1912 and was priested in 1913 in York Minster. In 1913 he met and married Margaret (Daisy) Christian Miller. He answered a call from Bishop Robins of Athabasca, arriving on August 4, 1914 to minister at All Saints Anglican Church. Two children were born to the family while in Athabasca: Noel Spencer Peter on May 19, 1915 and Ursula Margaret Elizabeth on March 3, 1917. Due to a serious illness, Rev. Baron left Athabasca to return to England in 1919 where he later became the curate at Sandringham for three years. Another son, Eric, was born there in 1921. In the mid 1930s, Daisy died. In [1945] Rev. Baron remarried and had four more children: Elizabeth, Robert, Anne and Charles. Rev. Baron died Jan.12, 1965.

The fonds consists of 7 photographs of Rev. Baron, Daisy and Noel Peter taken in Athabasca and Cambridge, and a photograph of Rev. Noel Peter Baron and his wife, Mary. The cassette is a recording of some Baron family history and a homily by Rev. Baron upon his visit to Athabasca in 1994. The textual records concern priestly residents of the Anglican rectory and funeral service booklets for Peter Baron and Ursula Alexander who both died in the spring of 2008. An email from Dr.Robert Baron contains more family information.
