The Riverview Montessori School Society was founded in January 1997 by a group of parents in order to operate a preschool and a private school in Edmonton following the Montessori curriculum. The Society was created to continue the operation of its predecessor Bilingual Montessori Learning Centre, which opened in 1970 and closed in 1996 because of a financial crisis. The Riverview Montessori School Society took over the Bilingual Montessori Learning Centre and offered a French and English program allowing children to learn at their own rate and exceeding the goals outlined in the Alberta Education curriculum. The Riverview Montessori School Society ended its operation in June 1998.

The fonds consists of the records of the Riverview Montessori School Society including incorporation papers, minutes of Annual General Meetings, Board of Directors meetings, and staff meetings, correspondence, student enrollment records, program of studies material. It also consists of the administrative papers of the Bilingual Montessori Learning Centre (1990-1996) which were vital to the operation of the Riverview Montessori School Society.
