Biografie

Rob Woodall researched the history of postal service in the Yukon, and wrote the book "The Postal History of the Yukon Territory". He was living in Dorset, England when he donated material to Yukon Archives in 1979 and 1982.

Geschiedenis beheer

Rob Woodall gave the material in MSS 266 to Alan Innes-Taylor in 1973. Innes-Taylor donated it to the Glenbow Archives in 1977; they in turn transferred the material to Yukon Archives in 1995. The letters from W.J.D. Dempster in MSS 146 were acquired by Robert Downer, a researcher of early airmail in the Yukon and NWT, who provided copies to Yukon Archives in 1983, at the request of Robert Woodall.

Bereik en inhoud

The fonds consists of manuscripts and textual records created and collected by Rob Woodall through his research of the postal history of Yukon. Part of the collection is four volumes of material documenting the postal and social history of Porcupine River (Rampart House and Old Crow), including invoices, maps, photographs, receipts, correspondence, cancelled envelopes and postcards. There are also photocopies of letters from William Dempster, 1962, and letters from Woodall to Yukon Archives. The fonds also includes Woodall's twenty chapter manuscript of "The Postal History of Yukon Territory", completed in 1964, as well as correspondence with Alan Innes-Taylor regarding the compilation of the book and Woodall's other scholarly activities. There is also a typed manuscript entitled "Vilhjalmur Stefansson's Journey from Herschel Island to Fort Yukon, April 1918".
