Biographical history

Robert Patterson, 1855-1938, was born in Templemore, Tipperary, Ireland and in 1876 move to Canada and joined the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP). He served in Fort Macleod, Alberta until 1880 when he took up ranching with James W. Bell, Tom Lynch, and George Emerson. In 1884 he married Sarah Lucinda Sayers, 1861-1925. Two years later he entered a partnership with Richard Urch near Champion, and later near Bassano. In 1906 Patterson returned to Fort Macleod and in 1911 was elected as an Independent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and sat until 1917. He retired to a ranch near Fort Macleod. He and his wife had four children, Minnie (Harvey), Susan (Ball), Arthur Courtney, 1887-1971, and Robert Edward "Bert", 1888-1988.
