Biographical history

Hyrco and Anna Romaniuk came to Canada with their family from Halychyna in 1898. The family, consisting of Yelena, Stefen, and Nastia, settled in the Wostok area to homestead. Yelena married in 1911 and had three surviving daughters: Pearl, Annie, and Jane. In 1943, Yelena and her family retired to Andrew, Alberta. While in Andrew, Yelena ran a dress shop until 1962.

Custodial history

Eli and Mary Romaniuk allowed the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village to copy material comprising PR1981.0095. In 1981, the UCHV transferred the material to the Provincial Archives of Alberta (PAA). In 1987, Harry Romaniuk donated the material comprising PR1987.0109 to the PAA.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of a copy of a photograph taken by Jane Romaniuk circa 1944 featuring the Romaniuk Family on a verandah of the Pickell House in Andrew, Alberta; and a photograph of members of the Romaniuk family circa 1930.
