Biographical history

Russell A. Dixon, 1925- , was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, the son of a physician. During the Second World War he served with the First Canadian Parachute Battalion and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Germany. After the war he studied at the University of Alberta, first studying medicine, then switching to law. He received his law degree in 1951, and came to Calgary to practice law, first with the firm of Cairns and Howard. He later became the senior partner with Dixon, Howard and Mackie. He was elected president of the Law Society of Alberta ca. 1979 and the next year was sworn in as a Justice of the Court of Queen's Bench. He married Sheila Sinton of Moose Jaw in 1951 and they had three children, Howard, Christine and Doug.
