History
Saviour Lutheran Church was formed from families living in the Ladner-Tsawwassen area who had been attending Trinity Lutheran Church in Richmond for years but wished for a church in their own town. The formal request was made to the Alberta-British Columbia District of the the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in 1969. A site for a church in Delta was finally purchased in 1972. The first service for the mission was held in the Ladner Christian School in 1973 under the direction of Pastor E. Lehman. Sunday school and bible classes were begun under Mr. Mark Lobitz as Director of Christian Education. Saviour congregation became independent from Trinity Lutheran Church in Richmond in 1975. Due to a piece of provincial legislation in 1976 instituting a land freeze that affected the property they owned, it became necessary for the congregation to sell. The following year they bought new property in 1977 and dedicated their new church building in 1980. The congregation joined the newly formed Lutheran Church-Canada synod in 1988.
