Historique

Ena Schneider was born in Wicklow in the Republic of Ireland. After immigrating to Canada in 1971, she worked for the Northern Alberta Railways Company for 10 years as an executive secretary and editorial assistant for the in-house newspaper. Following this position, she worked as an archival technician at the Edmonton Public Schools Archives and Museum in Edmonton, Alberta. Schneider was a member of the Historical Society of Alberta, the Writer's Guild of Alberta, Canadian Railway Historical Association, the Alberta Society of Archivists, and the Association of Canadian Archivists. In 1989, Ena Schneider published Ribbons of Steel: The Story of the Northern Alberta Railways. The book documents the establishment and operation of the Northern Alberta Railway Company through former employee interviews, and narratives. Schneider took over the project from Maurice Mahood and R.D. Clarence Comrie. Mahood and Comrie both worked for the Northern Alberta Railway Company and its predecessors the Edmonton, Dunega, and British Columbia Railway for 45 years. Both Comrie and Mahood provided photographs and personal accounts for the book.
