Biographical history
William Arthur Skirten, 1891-1943, was born in Cheltenham, Gloucester, England and came to Canada before the First World War. He enlisted in the 82nd Battalion and served overseas for four years. Skirten worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway(CPR) for thirty years. He and his wife Edith Alice, 1892-1977, had four children, Elsie, June (Haggblad), Arthur J., 1921-1942, and Herbert, ?-1950. Arthur served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He trained at No.5 Elementary Flight Training School in Regina, Saskatchewan and at the No.1 Central Navigation School [Air Navigation School] at Rivers, Manitoba.
