History

Donald B. Smith, 1946- , was born in Oakville, Ontario. He is a graduate of Universite Laval and the University of Toronto. He joined the Department of History at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta in 1974 and is now professor emeritus. He is a specialist in Canadian native studies and has published several books on the subject, including Long Lance : The True Story of an Imposter; Sacred Feathers : The Reverend Peter Jones (Kahkewaquonaby) and the Mississauga Indians; From the Land of the Shadows : The Making of Grey Owl, and Calgary's Grand Story. He married Nancy Townshend in 1982 and they have two sons.
