History

South Peace Regional Archives was established in January 2000 as a project of the Pioneer Museum Society of Grande Prairie & District in response to an active lobby of individuals and organizations. The mandate of the Archives was to promote and encourage the appreciation and study of the history of the south Peace River Country by acquiring, preserving and making accessible to the public, records in any format which reflect the history of this area. These records are collected from individuals individuals, families, businesses, organization, and institutions and, on deposit, from municipal governments. Funding is provided by participating municipalities: City of Grande Prairie, County of Grande Prairie, and Municipal District of Greenview. After 7 years of operating under the direction under the Museum Society, in July 2007, the South Peace Regional Archives Society was formed.
