Fred Parker Spencer (1851- 1914) of Nova Scotia and Anna McLesh (1848 - 1925) of Ontario were married in 1882 in Jamestown, North Dakota. They came to Canada in 1899 with their family, Tom (1883- 1979), Mae, Grace and Fred Jr.(1885?- 1965?) and homesteaded in the Battle River District. Fred Sr. was a carriage painter and builder and worked in Wetaskiwin. In 1912 they sold the farm and moved into Wetaskiwin where he set up a decorating business and was Sub-agent for the Dominion Land and Immigration Office until his death. He was a Charter member of the IOOF Lodge #8. Tom worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway until 1907, then returned to Wetaskiwin to work with his father. In 1911, he married Lottie Hagen (1889- 1969) and they had four sons, Charles, Terence, Robert and Sidney. Tom took over his father's decorating and painting business.
