Spirit River School Division was created on November 6, 1940. It had jurisdiction over schools bounded on the north by the Peace River, on the south by the Saddle Hills, on the east by the Smoky River and on the west by the B.C. border. The area was subdivided into seven subdivisions, each sending a representative to the centralized school board. Local school boards were phased out. The earliest records of minutes in 1947 show E.T. Sather as chairman; Tom Crawshaw, sec./treas. Nap Granger and J.E.G. Potter, members, and A.L.Scrag, superintendent. The fonds consists of minutes from 1947-1997, and correspondence Early minutes include itemized lists of approved expenditures, teachers’ salaries and agreements, budgets, correspondence, legal agreements, by-laws, and classroom inventories.
