Administrative history

The Starting Anew project was a centennial project that was undertaken by the Central Alberta Regional Museums Network, Central Alberta Historical Society, Wetaskiwin & District Museum and Paskapoo Historical Park on the basis of a Regional Partnership grant received from the Alberta Museum Association in 2003. A second grant was received from Red Deer Culture Link. Supporters also included, Central Alberta Refugee Effort, Central Alberta Diversity Association, Red Deer & District Archives, Red Deer Public Library and Red Deer College. A further grant was received by the Alberta Museum Association and a second stage in the project was initiated with new participants, the Danish Canadian National Museum, the Historic Markerville Creamery Museum and the Fort Ostell Museum Society. The authorizing body for the project was the Starting Anew Management Committee. Don Hepburn, an executive member of the Central Alberta Historical Society, chaired the Starting Anew Management Committee. Lynn Norman, coordinator for the Central Alberta Regional Museums Network, coordinated the Starting Anew Project.
The Starting Anew project goal was described as follows, "Many stories from the "pioneer era" of the late 1800's and early 1900's have been documented, however, the experiences of many of the more recent arrivals are not widely known. Starting Anew is a centennial project aimed at gathering these untold stories to: better reflect the multicultural reality of Central Alberta; preserve our history for future generations; update the historical account of the region; and provide a resource for books, exhibits, and other projects to celebrate our diversity."
