Stephen Wilson, 1854-1939, was born in Rotherham, Yorkshire, England, and apprenticed as a butcher. In 1880 he married Elizabeth Thorpe of Manchester, and they emigrated to Amherst Island, Ontario in 1881. They had two daughters, but they and Elizabeth died during an epidemic and are buried in Hamilton, Ontario. In 1885 Stephen moved to Calgary, N.W.T. and filed for a homestead in the Springbank district west of the town. In 1886 he married Rachel Silverson, but this marriage appears to have been dissolved. In 1894 he moved to Red Deer, where he farmed and owned or managed several hotels. In 1898 he married Gudmundina Sigurborg "Sarah" Anderson from the Burnt Lake district near Red Deer. They had 9 children, William John, Samuel Frederick, Dorothy Elizabeth, Catherine Anne (Gehrke), Beatrice Elizabeth (Koch), Lillian Emma (Rad), Helena Monica (Niblock), Dorothy Gladys (Dale), and Frances Patricia (Dale).

John S. Wilson was born in England, came to Sarnia, Ontario in the 1880s and then moved to the Lethbridge area of Alberta in 1893. He also lived in Canmore and then settled in Calgary. He and his wife, Mary, had at least three children, Annie Weston, William and Margaret (MacNeil). Annie Weston Wilson, 1885-1967, married Ernest Redpath "Jake" Fullerton, 1882-?, in 1907 and they had six daughters, Marian Ruth, ?-1953, Freda (Purmal), Cicely (Morgan), Anne (Davie), Jean (Lambert) and Hazel (Roberts). In 1913 the family moved to Bragg Creek where they ranched and worked as guides in the area until 1945 when they moved to Calgary. They later moved to Victoria, British Columbia.

A portion of this fonds was found by Larry Thacker in the house formerly occupied by Gladys and Ron Dale, Red Deer, Alberta.

Portée et contenu

The fonds consists of correspondence, land deeds, statements for a legal action, invoices, receipts, cancelled cheques, and insurance documents. Includes some of Sarah Wilson's documents.
