Biographical history

Henry Greenman Stone, 1857-1932, was born in Camden, New Jersey, shortly before his father, Captain J. H. Stone, moved the family to Hamilton, Ontario. Henry trained and worked in Hamilton as a house painter. In 1878, Henry married Emma Schwartzburger, 1858-1934. They had five children: Clarence, Roy, Hallie (Wilson), Gordon and Leslie. In 1899, Henry moved his family to the village of Red Deer, Northwest Territories, where he worked as a painter and decorator. In 1902 he opened an undertaking business in Red Deer. He served as a city councilor from 1917 to 1921. Both Henry and his wife died and are buried in Red Deer. Gordon Wilson, ?-1939, came to Red Deer in about 1901. He was later a partner in the farm implement firm of Wilson & McCutcheon. In 1907 he married Hallie Stone,1878-1910. They had one child, Henry Caul Wilson. After the death of Hallie Wilson from consumption, Gordon Wilson left his son to be raised by his in-laws and went back east. Henry Caul Stone,1907-1952, was born and educated in Red Deer. He suffered from consumption and polio. He married Beatrice Brown, 1911-1993. They had one child, Hallie May (du Preez). Beatrice later married Orville Snider of Red Deer.
