Administrative history

The Therien-Mallaig Mutual Telephone Company was incorporated under The Companies Act on August 18, 1963 and served the area around Therien, Mallaig, Goodridge, St-Vincent and Glendon, Alberta. Specifically, it included Townships 59, 60, 61, 62 and 63, Ranges 8, 9, and 10, West of the 4th Meridian (59, 60, 61, 62, 63-8,9,10-W4). Alberta Government Telephones (AGT) agreed to maintain and repair telephone systems and install or move telephone sets for Therien-Mallaig Mutual Telephone Company on September 1, 1967. The Therien-Mallaig Mutual Telephone Company transferred complete ownership to AGT in 1972.

Fonds consists of the administrative records of the Therien-Mallaig Mutual Telephone Company and includes correspondence, financial reports, account books, travel expenses, statements, agreements, minute books, journals, receipts and maps.

Immediate source of acquisition

Ronald Poirier, a businessman from St-Paul, was asked by Father Emeric Drouin omi, Oblate archivist at the time, to physically deposit these records with the Provincial Archives of Alberta. The records were considered to be an Oblate donation, and as of August 2018, are now the property of the Crown in right of Alberta.
