Biographical history
Frank Thorn (1898 - 1980) was born in North Dakota and came with his parents to the Red Deer area in 1907. They homesteaded until 1912 when the illness of his father caused the family to move back to the United States for a time. They returned to Canada in 1914 and in 1920 Frank came to Wetaskiwin. He married Vina Meyer of New Norway, Alberta, and they had four daughters. He first worked as a house painter, then as a mechanic for the Sims-Brown garage and became a master electrician. He was a volunteer fireman from 1920 - 1962 and played for many years in the Community Band and in various dance bands including the Thorn Family Orchestra with two of his daughters. In 1935, he became Secretary of the first Social Credit Provincial Constituency Association. He was a founder of the Wetaskiwin Pioneer Savings and Credit Union and was asked to cut the ribbon to open the new Credit Union building in 1979.
