Biographical history

Tom Peterson is the son of Tom and Margaret (Dodge) Peterson. Margaret passed away shortly after Tom's birth. His father, Mel, later remarried in 1935 to Constance Barton and two daughters were born, named Dorothy and Mary. The family came to Jasper in 1941. Constance's interest in history was a great influence on Tom. As a youth, he worked among many of the early pioneers of the Jasper area. In his words, such exposure "rubs off on you". He later became a founder of the Jasper Yellowhead Historical Society. Tom married Vi Vickery and they made their home in Jasper for 45 years, raising their family there. In 1995, they moved to Hinton where they still reside. Tom maintains his avid interest in history, learned by walking with the people who are doing the researching.
