Biografie

Ispitsi, meaning "high trees" in the Blackfoot language, was a sheltered and wooded area where it was easy to ford the Highwood River, and was favored by First Nations as a wintering place. A series of trading posts and a stopping place named Spitzee or Highwood Crossing were located in the area in the 1870s. By 1893, when the Calgary and Edmonton Railway reached the settlement, it had already become an established community serving nearby farmers and cattle ranchers. On April 13, 1902, the Village of High River had its first meeting. In 1906, with a population of 626, it incorporated as the Town of High River. By the 2010s its population exceeded 11,000, with diversified residential, commercial, and industrial development, and its municipal government was providing a full range of urban services.
