History

Drumheller Presbytery, originally called Hanna Presbytery from 1925-1932, was established in 1925 upon the creation of The United Church of Canada, a union of The Methodist Church, The Presbyterian Church in Canada, and The Congregational Churches of Canada. Drumheller Presbytery was situated in Alberta Conference. The bounds of presbytery included pastoral charges in the vicinity of Drumheller, Alberta; and changes over time are documented in the year books published by The United Church of Canada. Ca. 1970-1971, Drumheller Presbytery amalgamated with Coronation Presbytery. The court of presbytery includes ordained and lay members, as well as any corresponding members as prescribed in The Manual of The United Church of Canada. The officers include a chairperson, secretary, treasurer, and various standing committees. As with all United Church presbyteries, Drumheller Presbytery was responsible for: the oversight of pastoral charges and the promotion of religious life within its bound; receiving and transmitting petitions and appeals; dealing with matters sent down by a higher court, the constitution of an executive to continue the work of the presbytery between meetings; the election of lay members to the Conference; the submission of an annual report and minutes to the Conference; any special appointments; the receipt of reports from lay organizations; assessments from pastoral charges for providing for the work of presbytery; requests involving real property within its bounds; amalgamations, closures, re-alignments of pastoral charges and congregations; receiving petitions involving incorporation; appointment of ministry personnel and candidates for ministry; oversight of the pastoral relationship and of ministry personnel on its roll; and the review of pastoral charge and congregation records.
