The University Athletic Board (UAB) was approved as an organization in November, 1966. The objectives of the UAB were to promote and encourage the widest possible participation by all full-time members of the Students' Union intramural, extramural and intercollegiate activities, to encourage excellence in athletic activities and to promote athletic exhibitions and contests within the University community. The UAB also had the power to establish, organize and administer clubs, organizations and committees such as the Women's Athletic Association and the Men's Intramural Council.
