History

The Faculty Club was incorporated as a non-profit organization under the Societies Act in 1968. From 1968 to 1973, the Club only offered informal social gatherings on Friday nights, but expanded their operations after 1973 to provide daily luncheon and bar services with the occasional evening dining and special events. The Club's objectives were to provide a venue for (1) the promotion of friendship, fellowship and intellectual association amongst members of the University of Calgary staff and (2) the arrangement of social and recreational activities for members and guests. The CLub offers food and bar services, catering, parties and entertainment. The Club is governed by an Executive Committee and three sub-committees: House, Social and Membership. It has been housed at various sites, including the 7th Floor of the Earth Sciences Building, and in 1985 moved into permanent quarters on the 4th Floor of MacEwan Hall. The Faculty Club was joined with the Support Services Club and is now known as the University Club.
