Administrative history
The first Vice-President of the University of Lethbridge was appointed in 1968. In 1980 the position was styled Vice-President, Academic when additional vice-presidential positions were established. In 1987 the position of Associate Vice-President, Academic was created. The Universities Act of Alberta requires that one of the vice-presidents must be designated as the senior vice-president, and the Vice-President, Academic has always held that designation. The position has been held by William E. Beckel, Owen G. Holmes, Gerald E. Kenyon, William Sibley, Ian D. C. Newbould, and Seamus O'Shea.
