During WWI, he was drafted into the Turkish Army, but deserted them for the British Army. He married Judith Bendel, born in Rosh Pina, Israel, a Montessori kindergarten teacher, in 1920. In 1923, they moved to Montreal, along with their infant daughter, Aliza, where they worked as teachers. Their son Uri was born in Montreal in 1930. Aliza graduated from Commercial School and married former U.S. Marine Ben Derzansky, later moving to New York. They have two children, Gloria and Louise, and two grandchildren. Uri attended Sir George Williams College and was active in Habonim and YM-YWHA. He spent 40 years as a Jewish communal worker in various capacities, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and later in Edmonton, Alberta, where he moved in 1969.
