Biographical history

Lois Valli (nee Pinder) was the daughter of Henry and Lydia Pinder. She was born on January 4, 1908 in Southern Saskatchewan where her family had a homestead. She had a brother, Stanley. The family later moved to Redcliff in 1918.
Lois graduated from Garbutt Business School in Medicine Hat in 1925, and moved to Brooks to be part of the orchestra there. She operated the switchboard at a local drug store, but later was hired at the CPR Land Office to work as a secretary for George Robertson.
Mr. Mario A. (Buck) Valli worked at a sheep ranch in Kininvie, and moved to Brooks in 1925 where he sold insurance. He met Lois and the two were married January 4, 1928 at Lois' family home in Redcliff.
In 1934 the couple moved to the Nine Bar Ranch where they worked for J.J. Bowlen. In 1938 they moved north of Brooks to manage the E.I.D. Dairy Farm. They bought some land across the road from the dairy farm and built a house which they moved into in 1946. Mario raised seed potatoes and sheep, and also wrote a column in the Brooks Bulletin.
Lois and Mario had three children: Gilda Valli, a librarian in the Executive Department at the University of Alberta, Ted Valli, a pathologist in Guelph Veterinary College, and Angela Valli.
