Biografie
Vance Rodwalt, 1946- , was born near Edmonton, Alberta. After completing high school he began drawing cartoons for the Roughneck magazine. He worked for Marvel comics for five years and magazines Mad and Cracked. He travelled to Europe and on his return he began drawing political cartoons for the Calgary Albertan. After the Calgary Sun took over the Albertan in 1980 Rodewalt stayed for three years, then moved over to the Calgary Herald. He retired from that paper in 2010. In 1988 he won the National Newspaper Award for cartooning and he also drew the internationally syndicated Chubb & Chauncey comic strip as well as The Byrds comic strip. A selection of Rodwalt's cartoons appeared in A Brush with Irreverence / Vance Rodewalt. -- Calgary : Calgary Herald, 1988 and With Weapons Drawn / Vance Rodewalt. -- Calgary : Detselig, 1994. He also illustrated A Funny Bone That Was / David C. Jones. -- Calgary : Detselig, 1992. Rodewalt and his wife Susan (Carscallen) had two sons.

The fonds consists of editorial cartoons, most of which appeared in the Calgary Herald. The cartoons poke fun at the joys and frustrations of being Calgarian, and also depict Calgary's unique views on Canadian and world affairs. General topics include politics, religion, health care, hockey and weather. More controversial topics include gun control, tasers, abortion, the war in Afghanistan, and smoking. Many cartoons relate to Quebec separatism. The fonds also consists of his comic strips, Chubb and Chauncey and The Byrds.
