History

Peter Versluce had been a prospector in the Yukon for nearly 40 years when he died in August 1980 at the age of 74. He was born in Holland and arrived in the Yukon via British Columbia. With his three brothers, he came north after hearing about the construction of the Alaska Highway. Peter Versluce started working on heavy road-building machinery and then had a government wood-cutting permit before devoting his life to prospecting. Versluce became well-known in the Yukon when he brought out a huge slab of copper ore now in front of Sam McGee's cabin at the MacBride Museum.
