Fonds yuk-217 - W.A. Chisholm fonds

W.A. (Alec) Chisholm Q.C. (1873-1940) practiced law in Oakville, Ontario and was the town solicitor there for many years. He was the founding president of the Oakville Rotary club, and was a devout Anglican and a keen trout fisher. In June 1909, convalescing from an illness, he took a trip to the Yukon. He passed through Whitehorse and met Robert W. Service on the sternwheeler to Dawson City. While in Dawson City he explored the area on foot and by bicycle, taking many photographs. He stayed at St. Andrew's Church manse with Dr. Andrew S. Grant, a close friend. While there he won the St. Andrew's Tennis Club tournament and was presented with an autographed leather bound copy of Service's "Ballads of a Cheechako in the Klondyke" with his initials engraved on the front cover. He returned to Oakville in the early fall of 1909.
