Biographical history
In 1898 Walter Hamilton left Ashcroft BC, bound for the Yukon via the Cariboo Trail. En route, he mined on Pine Creek in Atlin and reached Dawson in time to stake a paying claim on Sulphur Creek. Three years later he quit mining and worked with the Dawson post office, eventually leaving Yukon 7 1/2 years later. From 1913-1918 he was a Vancouver city alderman and in 1960, at 88 years old and 4 years before his death, Mr. Hamilton was elected president of the International Sourdough Reunion in Oakland. He also wrote a history of the Yukon entitled "The Yukon Story" published by Mitchell Press in 1964.
