Biographical history
Michael Ostergaard Wendelboe, 1880-1963, was born in Godvad, Denmark and emigrated first to South Dakota, and then in 1903 to Alberta, where he took out a homestead west of Barons. Mary Serena Lund, 1891-1970, was born in Silkeborg, Denmark and emigrated to Alberta in 1910. The couple married in November 1910 and had seven children who survived infancy, Clara (Sparks), 1911-1996, Ernest, 1914-1997, Eleanor (Long), 1916-2003, Vivian (Shew), 1917-2009, Mary Rose "Rosemary" (Sylvester), 1919-2002 , Beatrice "Betty" (Scharf), 1921-1976 , and Leon "Mick", 1925-2004 . The family moved to the Starline district in 1925, where they ran a blacksmith shop and service station. Mike and Mary retired to Red Deer in 1961 and after Mike's death, Mary split her time between Ernest Wendelboe in Calgary and Clara Sparks in Red Deer.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of personal papers of Mike Wendelboe and Mary Wendelboe, including their certificates and correspondence; Mary's genealogical and fictional writings; family memorabilia; genealogical articles written by Clara Sparks; and photographs of the Wendelboe family, the farm at Barons, Starline, and various Sparks, Lund, Sears, Forster and Slaymaker relatives.
