History
White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&YR) is a transportation company from the turn of the 20th century. This company built the narrow gauge railway from Skagway to Whitehorse, and had a fleet of sternwheelers navigating the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City, Yukon. In 1902 the Whitehorse to Dawson City Overland Trail was built by White Pass, the first Overland route to the Klondike. The Overland Trail is abandoned, sternwheelers are no longer running but the White Pass and Yukon Route railroad runs from Skagway to the White Pass summit for tourists. The company was still operating (as of 1998) using trucks to transport freight.
