Historique
Albert Lawrence Wilk was born October 3, 1914, likely in Round Hill, Alberta; he was the son of Lawrence B. and Julia (Stefura) Wilk. At an early age he came under the influence of Frank L. Farley, noted ornithologist in the Camrose, Alberta area. Albert completed his Master of Science degree from the University of Alberta in 1942 in the Zoology department; his thesis was entitled "Studies on the Breeding Cycles of Tropical Birds Collected at 5º South Latitude." He did postgraduate work at the University of California. He was the co-author of Birds of the Lake St. John region, Quebec, with W. Earl Godfrey (1948) and The Birds of Alberta with W. Ray Salt (1958). Albert participated in scientific expeditions across Canada, from the Canadian arctic, the Queen Charlotte Islands to Labrador.
