Biographical history

William B. Ballou arrived in Alaska in 1898. He worked as a miner and part-time accountant, and later served as the U.S. Commissioner at Rampart in January, 1907.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of photocopies of William Ballou's correspondence from 1889-1918. There are letters written to his mother and other relatives, as well as some maps and newspaper clippings. Most of the letters are written from the Rampart, Alaska area.
