Biographical history

Geographer, 1924- . William C. Wonders was the founder and first professor of the Department of Geography at the University of Alberta. He was appointed University Professor in 1983. Co- founder and first chair of the Boreal Institute for Northern Studies (now the Canadian Circumpolar Institute), his research, teaching, writing and consulting work has centred strongly on the North, native land claims, and Scandinavia, and special atlases.

Includes clippings, correspondence, newsletters, notices and travel records relating to Alberta, Canadian and international associations and conferences. III Book Reviews (1960-1986). IV Correspondence (1965-1987). V Education (1944-1954). Includes clippings; maps; notes; theses. VI Memorabilia (1952-1981). Includes Arctic plants; lectures; logbook; olive wreath from honorary degree ceremony at Uppsala University. VII Personal (1948-1989). Includes annual reports; biographical files; correspondence. VIII Photographs (1972). Collected for monograph entitled "The North" (56 images). IX Publications (1955-1989). X Radio talks (1954- 1975). XI Research projects and materials (1951-1989). Relates to The Atlas of Alberta, Native land claims, Scandinavian homesteaders, and Scotland. Includes grant applications, clippings. XII Teaching (1952-1986). Includes notebooks.
